Exercise 34 Page 142

What are we finding? A part.
a=112

Practice makes perfect
In the percent proportion, the ratio of the part a to the whole b is equal to the percent p written as a fraction. a/b=p/100 Given any two of these three variables, we can find the third one. Since we are trying to find a percentage of a whole, we are finding a part. We are given the values p= 175 and b= 64, and we will solve for a.
a/b=p/100
a/64=175/100
a/64=7/4
a=7/4*64
a=7*64/4
a=7*16/1
a=7*16
a=112
The part is 112.
