Exercise 33 Page 142

What are we finding? A part.
a=142.5

Practice makes perfect

In the percent proportion, the ratio of the part a to the whole b is equal to the percent p written as a fraction. a/b=p/100 Given any two of these three variables, we can find the third one. Since we are trying to find the percentage of a whole, we are finding a part. We are given the values p= 95 and b= 150, and we will solve for a.

a/b=p/100
a/150=95/100
a=95/100*150
a=95*150/100
a=95*3/2
a=142.5

The part is 142.5.
