Exercise 27 Page 141

22 23

Practice makes perfect
In the percent proportion, the ratio of the part a to the whole b is equal to the percent p written as a fraction. a/b=p/100 Given any two of these three variables, we can find the third one. In this exercise, we are given the values p= 150 and a= 34, and we are looking for the value of b.
a/b=p/100
34/b=150/100
34/b=3/2
34=3/2* b
34=3b/2
68=3b
68/3=b
â–Ľ
Write fraction as a mixed number
66+2/3=b
66/3+2/3=b
22+2/3=b
22 23=b
b=22 23
This means that 34 is 150 % of 22 23.
