Exercise 19 Page 141

16

Practice makes perfect

In the percent proportion, the ratio of the part a to the whole b is equal to the percent p written as a fraction. a/b=p/100 Given any two of these three variables, we can find the third one. In this exercise, we are given the values p= 125 and b= 12.8, and we are looking for the value of a.

a/b=p/100
a/12.8=125/100
a/12.8=5/4
a=5/4 * (12.8)
a=64/4
a=16

This means that 16 is 125 % of 12.8.
