Exercise 17 Page 141

13

Practice makes perfect
In the percent proportion, the ratio of the part a to the whole b is equal to the percent p written as a fraction. a/b=p/100 Given any two of these three variables, we can find the third one. In this exercise, we are given the values p= 12.5 and b= 104, and we are looking for the value of a.
a/b=p/100
a/104=12.5/100
a=12.5/100 * 104
a=12.5*104/100
a=12.5*26/25
a=325/25
a=13
This means that 13 is 12.5 % of 104.
