Exercise 24 Page 141

25

Practice makes perfect
In the percent proportion, the ratio of the part a to the whole b is equal to the percent p written as a fraction. a/b=p/100 Given any two of these three variables, we can find the third one. In this exercise, we are given the values p= 80 and a= 20, and we are looking for the value of b.
a/b=p/100
20/b=80/100
20/b=4/5
20=4/5 * b
20=4b/5
100=4b
25=b
b=25
This means that 20 is 80 % of 25.
