Exercise 15 Page 141

36

Practice makes perfect

In the percent proportion, the ratio of the part a to the whole b is equal to the percent p written as a fraction. a/b=p/100 Given any two of these three variables, we can find the third one. In this exercise, we are given the values p= 25 and b= 144, and we are looking for the value of a.

a/b=p/100
a/144=25/100
a/144=1/4
a=1/4*144
a=144/4
a=36

This means that 36 is 25 % of 144.
