Exercise 26 Page 141

125

Practice makes perfect
In the percent proportion, the ratio of the part a to the whole b is equal to the percent p written as a fraction. a/b=p/100 Given any two of these three variables, we can find the third one. In this exercise, we are given the values p= 160 and a= 200, and we are looking for the value of b.
a/b=p/100
200/b=160/100
200/b=8/5
200=8/5* b
200=8b/5
1000=8b
125=b
b=125
This means that 200 is 160 % of 125.
