Exercise 31 Page 142

What are we finding? A part.
a=5.04

Practice makes perfect
In the percent proportion, the ratio of the part a to the whole b is equal to the percent p written as a fraction. a/b=p/100 Given any two of these three variables, we can find the third one. Since we are trying to find the percentage of a number, we will find a part. We are given the values p= 9 and b= 56, and we are looking for the value of a.
a/b=p/100
a/56=9/100
a=9/100* 56
a=9* 56/100
a=9* 14/25
a=5.04
The part is 5.04.
