Exercise 4 Page 141

48

Practice makes perfect

In the percent proportion, the ratio of the part a to the whole b is equal to the percent p written as a fraction. a/b=p/100 Given any two of these three variables, we can find the third one. In this exercise, we are given the values p= 75 and a= 36, and we are looking for the value of b.

a/b=p/100
36/b=75/100
36/b=3/4
36=3/4 * b
36=3b/4
144=3b
48=b
b=48

This means that 36 is 75 % of 48.
