Exercise 64 Page 86

How can we isolate d on the left-hand side?

d=-0.6

Practice makes perfect
To solve the equation, we have to isolate d on one side of the equation. By dividing both sides of the equation by 4, we can remove the coefficient from d.
4d=-2.4
4d/4=-2.4/4
d=-2.4/4
d=-0.6
To check that we have the correct solution, we can substitute d=-0.6 into the original equation.
4d=-2.4
4*( -0.6)? =-2.4
-2.4=-2.4
Since both sides are equal, we can conclude that d=-0.6 is the correct solution.
