Exercise 26 Page 85

How can we isolate n on the left-hand side?

n=8

Practice makes perfect
To solve the equation we have to isolate n on one side of the equation. By dividing both sides of the equation by -8, we can remove the coefficient from n.
-8n=-64
-8n/-8=-64/-8
n=64/8
n=8
To check that we have the correct solution, we can substitute n=8 into the original equation.
-8n=-64
-8( 8)? =-64
-64=-64
Since both sides are equal, we can conclude that n=8 is the correct solution.
