Exercise 30 Page 85

How can we isolate c on the right-hand side?

c=-24

Practice makes perfect
To solve the equation we have to isolate c on one side of the equation. By dividing both sides of the equation by 4, we can remove the coefficient from c.
-96=4c
-96/4=4c/4
-24=c
c=-24
To check that we have the correct solution, we can substitute c=-24 into the original equation.
-96=4c
-96 ? =4 ( -24)
-96=-96
Since both sides are equal, we can conclude that c=-24 is the correct solution.
