Exercise 56 Page 86

How can we isolate x on the right-hand side?

3 27

Practice makes perfect
To solve the equation, we have to isolate x on one side of the equation. By dividing both sides of the equation by 7, we can remove the coefficient from x.
23=7x
23/7=7x/7
23/7=x
x=23/7
To check that we have the correct solution, we can substitute x= 237 into the original equation.
23=7x
23? =7* 237
23=23
Since both sides are equal, we can conclude that x= 237, or in mixed form 3 27, is the correct solution.
