Exercise 28 Page 85

How can we isolate b on the left-hand side?

b=29

Practice makes perfect
To solve the equation we have to isolate b on one side of the equation. By dividing both sides of the equation by 5, we can remove the coefficient from b.
5b=145
5b/5=145/5
b=29
To check that we have the correct solution, we can substitute b=29 into the original equation.
5b=145
5* 29? =145
145=145
Since both sides are equal, we can conclude that b=29 is the correct solution.
