Exercise 63 Page 86

How can we isolate m on the left-hand side?

m=0.8

Practice makes perfect
To solve the equation, we have to isolate m on one side of the equation. By multiplying both sides of the equation by 10, and then dividing by 16, we can remove the coefficient from m.
1.6m=1.28
16m=12.8
m=12.8/16
m=0.8
To check that we have the correct solution, we can substitute m=0.8 into the original equation.
1.6m? =1.28
1.6* 0.8? =1.28
1.28=1.28
Since both sides are equal, we can conclude that m=0.8 is the correct solution.
