Rewriting any linear equation in the slope-intercept form requires us to isolate the y-variable. To do this, we will use the Properties of Equality to apply inverse operations on the equation.

x-y=1/4

LHS+y=RHS+y

x-y+y=1/4+y

Add terms

x=1/4+y

LHS-1/4=RHS-1/4

x-1/4=1/4+y-1/4

Subtract fractions

x-1/4=y

Rearrange equation

y=x-1/4
