Exercise 15 Page 188

Substitute the given points into the Slope Formula.

1

Practice makes perfect

We are given a table of points that lie on a line.

x 0 1 2 3
y - 1 0 1 2
We can calculate the slope by substituting only two points of the given table into the Slope Formula. m = y_2-y_1/x_2-x_1 Note that it does not matter which point we choose to use for ( x_1, y_1) and ( x_2, y_2), since the result of using the Slope Formula will be the same.
m=y_2-y_1/x_2-x_1
m=2- 1/3- 2
m=1/1
m=1
The slope of the line that passes through the given points is 1.
