Exercise 8 Page 123

Substituting values from the domain will give the corresponding values from the range.

Practice makes perfect
We can graph the linear function using a table. First, select some arbitrary values from the domain, then substitute them for x in the given function. Solving for h(x) will give us the corresponding values from the range.
x h(x)=-3/4x-1 Simplify
0 h( 0)=-3/4( 0)-1 h(0)= -1
4 h( 4)=-3/4( 4)-1 h(4)= -4
8 h( 8)=-3/4( 8)-1 h(8)= -7

Using these x and h(x) values as ( x, h(x)) coordinate pairs, we can plot the points. Connecting these points will give us the graph of the function.
