We will write the equation of the horizontal and vertical lines that pass through the point ( 0, -1). Let's begin by plotting the point on a coordinate plane.

Now, we can use the grid lines of the coordinate plane to create the horizontal and vertical lines.

Notice that every point on the horizontal line has a y-coordinate of -1. Likewise, every point on the vertical line has an x-coordinate of 0 and because of that they all lie on the y-axis. We can use these facts to write the equations of the lines. Horizontal Line:& y= -1 Vertical Line:& x= 0
