Exercise 21 Page 194

What can you learn from an equation written in point-slope form?

Practice makes perfect
An equation in point-slope form follows a specific format. y- y_1= m(x- x_1)

Here m is the slope of the line and ( x_1, y_1) is a point on the line. To identify the slope and one of the points, we have to rewrite the equation a little bit. y- y_1&= m(x- x_1) y- 1 &= -3(x-( -2)) From the equation, we can see that the slope of the line is -3 and (-2,1) is a point on the line. To graph the line, we will first plot the given point. From this point, we can move right 1 unit and then 3 units down, as the slope dictates.
