Exercise 41 Page 412

Gather all of the variable terms on one side of the equation and all of the constant terms on the other side.

x=1

Practice makes perfect
To solve an equation, we should first gather all of the variable terms on one side of the equation and all of the constant terms on the other side, using the Properties of Equality. In this case, we need to start by multiplying both sides of the equation by 2 to reduce the fraction.
x+1/2=4x-3
x+1/2* 2=(4x-3)2
â–Ľ
Simplify
x+1=(4x-3)2
x+1=8x-6
Now we can continue to solve using the Properties of Equality.
x+1=8x-6
x+1-x=8x-6-x
1=7x-6
1+6=7x-6+6
7=7x
7/7=7x/7
1=x
x=1
