Distribute

When a number is multiplied by an expression inside parentheses, that number is multiplied, or distributed, to every term inside the parentheses.

5 (x + 3 - y) = 5 \cdot x + 5 \cdot 3 - 5 \cdot y .

This is also known as the Distributive Property.
