Exercise 5 Page 410

How many sides does the polygon have? Can you draw a line along one of the sides of the polygon and make the line cross the interior?

Convex pentagon

Practice makes perfect
Let's begin by counting the sides of the polygon.

The polygon has five sides which makes it a pentagon. A polygon is convex if no line that contains a side of the polygon contains a point in the interior of the polygon. Let's draw all such lines for this polygon.

None of these lines contain a point in the interior. Hence, the polygon is convex.
