Exercise 1 Page 406

How many sides does the polygon have? Can you draw a line along one of the sides of the polygon and make the line cross the interior?

Concave pentagon

Practice makes perfect
Let's begin by counting the sides of the polygon.

The polygon has five sides which makes it a pentagon. A polygon is concave if a line that contains a side of the polygon contains a point in the interior of the polygon. Let's draw such a line containing Side 2.

It is possible to draw a line along this side of the polygon and make it cross the interior, so the polygon is concave.
