To solve an equation, we should first gather all of the variable terms on one side of the equation and all of the constant terms on the other side, using the Properties of Equality. In this case, we will start by subtracting 3x from both sides of the equation.
4x-9=3x+5
4x-9-3x=3x+5-3x
x-9=5
x-9+9=5+9
x=14
