Exercise 30 Page 547

Create a proportion, and then use cross multiplication.

5380 pesos

Practice makes perfect
We are given that 269 Mexican pesos is equivalent to 25 United States dollars and we want to exchange 500 dollars. We will start by creating a proportion that compares the amount of pesos and the amount of dollars. We can do this, because the ratio of Mexican pesos to dollars is constant. The amount of pesos/The amount of dollarsLet x be the amount of pesos, we will get by exchanging 500 dollars. Now, we can write the proportion using all the known values. On the left side of the proportion, we will write that 269 dollars is equivalent to 25 pesos. On the right side, we will write that x dollars is equivalent to 500 dollars. 269/25=x/500 Finally, let's solve the proportion to find the value of x. To do so, we will use Cross Products Property.
269/25=x/500
269* 500= 25* x
134500=25x
5380=x
x=5380
By exchanging 500 dollars, we will get 5380 pesos.
