Exercise 29 Page 547

Create a proportion, and then use cross multiplication.

≈5

Practice makes perfect
We are given that 7 out of every 500 teenage people are vegetarian. To determine how many teenagers in a group of 350 are expected to be vegetarians, we will create a proportion. Let's assume that the ratio of vegetarians to the number of all teenage people is constant. Let x be the number of vegetarians in a group of 350 teenagers. The number of vegetarians/The number of teenagers=7/500=x/350 We will solve the above proportion using Cross Products Property.
7/500=x/350
7*350= 500* x
2450=500x
4.9=x
x=4.9
x≈5
We would expect about 5 vegetarians in a group of 350 teenagers.
