We want to find the measure of ∠ 5. Let's take a look at the photo of a portion of an airport.
Airport
We are told that the measure of ∠ 4 is 84^(∘). Note that ∠ 4 and ∠ 5 lie between lines a and b on opposite sides of the transversal, so they are alternate interior angles. Because lines a and b are parallel, ∠ 4 and ∠ 5 are congruent. This means that the measure of ∠ 5 is equal to the measure of ∠ 4. ∠ 4 = ∠ 5 If the measure of ∠ 4 is 84^(∘), then the measure of ∠ 5 is also 84^(∘).
