The easiest way to begin is to align the first point $P$ with an integer on the ruler. As it should be measured to the nearest $\frac{1}{8}$ inch, we will look closer at the point $Q$ to get a higher level of accuracy.

It appears that $Q$ aligns with $2\frac{3}{8}.$ To calculate the length of the segment, we will use the Ruler Postulate. It tells us that the distance between points $P$ and $Q$ can by calculated by taking the absolute value of the difference between $Q$ and $P.$ The length of the segment is $1\frac{3}{8}$ in. when measured to the nearest $\frac{1}{8}$ inch.
