Before we begin, recall that a square root of a number raised to the second power is equal to the absolute value of that number. sqrt(a^2)=|a| Let's use that information when taking the square root of both sides of the equation
x^2=a^2
sqrt(x^2)=sqrt(a^2)
|x|=|a|
We can write our answer.

If x^2=a^2, then |x| is always equal to |a|.
