We have been given the following absolute value equation

and are told that it has no solution. Why?

∣ 4 x - 7 ∣ \neq = - 1

The absolute value of any number cannot be equal to a negative number. Because absolute values represent distance, they are always non-negative. Therefore, the equation has no solution.
