Exercise 66 Page 34

Use the formula for the area of a triangle.

12 feet

Practice makes perfect

We are given a triangle with a height of 8 feet and an area of 48 square feet. We are asked to find its base.

The area of a triangle can be found using the following formula. A=1/2bh In the formula b is the length of the base and h is the height. To find b, we are going to substitute A= 48 and h= 8 into the above formula, then solve for b.
A=1/2bh
48=1/2b( 8)
48=1/2* 8* b
48=8/2b
48=4b
48/4=4b/4
12=4b/4
12=b/1
12=b
b=12
The base of the triangle is 12 feet.
