Exercise 15 Page 626

The area of a trapezoid is one half the product of the height and the sum of the bases.

5/6 ft^2

Practice makes perfect
The area of a trapezoid is one half the product of its base and the sum of its bases. We have been given that the lengths of the bases are 2 and 3 feet and that the height is 13 feet. Sincew e have the height and the lengths of the bases, we can substitute them into the formula for the area of a trapezoid.
A=1/2h(b_1+b_2)
A=1/2(1/3)( 2+3)
â–Ľ
Evaluate right-hand side
A=1/2(1/3)(5)
A=1/6(5)
A=5/6
The area of the trapezoid is 56ft^2.
