4. Solving Multi-Step Inequalities
Sign In
How can you isolate m?
m≤-4
We can solve inequalities in almost the same way as equations. The only difference is that we need to remember to flip the inequality sign when multiplying or dividing by a negative value.
This inequality tells us that all values less than or equal to -4 will satisfy the inequality.
| m | -9m≥36 | Simplify | True or False? |
|---|---|---|---|
| -7 | -9( -7)? ≥36 | 63≥36 | True |
| -4 | -9( -4)? ≥36 | 36≥36 | True |
| -2 | -9( -2)? ≥36 | 18≱36 | False |
Notice how the values less than or equal to - 4 satisfy the inequality.
