Exercise 54 Page 156

The percent proportion is a proportion that equates a part of a whole to a percent out of 100.

170

Practice makes perfect
In the percent proportion, the ratio of the part a to the whole b is equal to the percent p written as a fraction. a/b=p/100 Given any two of these three variables, we can find the third one. In this exercise, we are given the value a= 102 and the percent p= 60. Therefore, we are looking for the value b.
a/b=p/100
102/b=60/100
102/b=3/5
102=3/5 * b
102=3* b/5
510=3b
170=b
b=170
This means that 102 is 60 % of 170.
