Exercise 53 Page 156

The percent proportion is a proportion that equates a part of a whole to a percent out of 100.

108

Practice makes perfect

In the percent proportion, the ratio of the part a to the whole b is equal to the percent p written as a fraction. a/b=p/100 Given any two of these three variables, we can find the third one. In this exercise, we are given the value b= 150 and the percent p= 72. Therefore, we are looking for the value a.

a/b=p/100
a/150=72/100
a/150=18/25
a=18/25 * 150
a=18* 150/25
a=18* 6* 25/25
a=18* 6/1
a=18* 6
a=108

This means 108 is 72 % of 150.
