Exercise 24 Page 47

Rewrite the expression so that all of the numbers are fractions.

7/4

Practice makes perfect
Before we evaluate the expression, let's first rewrite it so that all of the numbers are fractions.
2 13 Ă· 1 13
2 * 3+1/3 Ă· 1 * 3+1/3
6+1/3 Ă· 1 * 3+1/3
6+1/3 Ă· 3+1/3
7/3 Ă· 4/3
Now, dividing fractions is the same as multiplying the first fraction by the reciprocal of the second fraction. 7/3 Ă· 4/3 = 7/3 * 3/4 When multiplying fractions, remember that the product of two fractions is equal to the product of the numerators over the product of the denominators.
7/3 * 3/4
7 * 3/3 * 4
21/12
21/3/12/3
7/4
