Exercise 10 Page 46

Rewrite the expression so that all of the numbers are fractions.

164/75 or 2 1475

Practice makes perfect
Before we evaluate the expression, let's first rewrite it so that all of the numbers are fractions.
8 15 Ă· 3 34
8 * 5+1/5 Ă· 3 * 4+3/4
40+1/5 Ă· 12+3/4
41/5 Ă· 15/4
Now, dividing fractions is the same as multiplying the first fraction by the reciprocal of the second fraction. 41/5 Ă· 15/4 = 41/5 * 4/15 When multiplying fractions, remember that the product of two fractions is equal to the product of the numerators over the product of the denominators.
41/5 * 4/15
41 * 4/5 * 15
164/75
We can also rewrite our result as a mixed number.
164/75
150+14/75
150/75+14/75
2+14/75
2 1475
