Translate the verbal expression describing the length into a mathematical expression.

Let's call the rectangle's width x. To determine the length, we have to translate the verbal description of it into a mathematical description. Sentence: The length is three units shorter than twice its width [1em] ↓ [0.4em] Equation: l = 2 x - 3

Once we have expressions for both its dimensions, we can create an illustration of the rectangle that includes them.

The area of a rectangle is calculated by multiplying its width and length. Area: x(2x-3)=2x^2-3x This matches option C.
