Exercise 16 Page 364

w^4

Practice makes perfect
We are given a numeric expression, and want to write an equivalent expression. w^8/w^7 * w^5/w^2Notice that this expression involves quotient of two powers with the same base. Therefore, we can use the Quotient of Powers Property. This property states that when dividing two exponential expressions with the same base, we subtract the exponents.
w^8/w^7 * w^5/w^2
w^(8-7)* w^(5-2)
w^1* w^3
w* w^3
Now, we have the product of two powers with the same base. Therefore, we can use the Product of Powers Property. This property states that when multipling two exponential expressions with the same base, we add the exponents.
w* w^3
w^(1+3)
w^4
Please note we have only shown one of many possible equivalent expressions.
