Planes do not have to be parallel to the ground. Below we see three different planes, one that runs along the x-axis, another that runs along the y-axis and a third that runs along the z-axis.

Therefore, as long as the bars run in the same direction, they can be placed on the same plane. It will not be parallel to the ground though.
