Exercise 33 Page 457

Substitute -2, -1, 0, 1, 2 and 3 for x.

{0.16,0.4,1,2.5,6.25,15.625}, increase

Practice makes perfect
We are given an equation and asked to evaluate it for some given values. x=-2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3This means that we should substitute -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, and 3 for x in the given equation and then evaluate. Let's start with -2.
y = 2.5^x
y = 2.5^(-2)
y = (5/2)^(-2)
y = 5^(-2)/2^(-2)
y = 5^(-2)*1/2^(-2)
y = 1/5^2 * 1/1/2^2
y = 1/5^2 * 1*2^2/1
y = 1/25*1*4/1
y = 1/25*4/1
y = 4/25
y = 0.16
Now, let's do the same thing for the rest of the values.
x Evaluation Result
-2 2.5^(-2) 0.16
-1 2.5^(-1) 0.4
0 2.5^0 1
1 2.5^1 2.5
2 2.5^2 6.25
3 2.5^3 15.625

As we see, the values of the range increases.
