Exercise 123 Page 527

Calculate the product of the tire's circumference, the revolutions per minute, and number of minutes.

D

Practice makes perfect
To find how far she travels in 5 minutes we need the circumference of the tire. To find this we have to multiply its diameter — which is twice the radius — by π.
C=2Ď€ r
C=2Ď€( 14)
C=28Ď€
The circumference is 28Ď€. If the tires are spinning at 120 revolutions per minute, the number of inches traveled after 5 minutes must be the product of the 28Ď€, 120, and 5. 28Ď€(120)(5)=16 800Ď€ in. This matches option D.
