Exercise 13 Page 400

Fold your paper so that the endpoints of the segment overlap.

Exercise 25182 3.svg
Practice makes perfect

To copy the line segment, we can begin by drawing a starting point and using a straightedge to draw a straight line.

Now, we need to set the compass to the length of EF.

Placing the compass on the point we drew, we can get the same length as the line segment in the book.

The point where the arc from the compass intersects the line is the endpoint.

Exercise 25182 1.svg

We find the midpoint by folding the paper so that point F overlaps point E.

Exercise 25182 2.svg

When unfolding the paper, the fold intersects the segment at its midpoint.
