Inequalities follow various Properties of Inequalities, just as with equations, that allow for using inverse operations to systematically isolate a variable. However, when you multiply or divide an inequality by a negative number, the inequality sign changes direction.

First Inequality

To isolate x, we need to divide both sides of the inequality by 2.
2x<-8
x<-4

Second Inequality

To isolate x, we need to divide both sides of the inequality by -2 and reverse the inequality sign.
-2x<8
x>-4
