What type of angles are ∠ 1 and ∠ 4?

Note that from previous exercises we know that the measure of ∠ 1 is 50^(∘).

From the diagram, we can also see that ∠ 4 and either of the 50^(∘) angles are a linear pair. By the Linear Pair Postulate we know these angles are supplementary. This means their measures add up to 180^(∘): m∠ 4+50^(∘)=180^(∘). By solving this equation we can find the measure of m∠ 4.
m∠ 4+50^(∘)=180^(∘)
m∠ 4=130^(∘)
The measure of ∠ 4 is 130^(∘).
