An absolute value measures an expression's distance from a midpoint on a number line. |c+4|= 6This equation means that the distance is 6, either in the positive direction or the negative direction. |c+4|= 6 ⇒ lc+4= 6 c+4= -6 To find the solutions to the absolute value equation, we need to solve both of these cases for c.

lc c+4 ≥ 0:c+4 = 6 & (I) c+4 < 0:c+4 = - 6 & (II)

lcc+4=6 & (I) c+4=-6 & (II)

(I), (II): LHS-4=RHS-4

Both 2 and -10 are solutions to the absolute value equation.
