5. Measuring and Constructing Angles
Continue to next subchapter

Exercise 10 Page 418

When we bisect an angle what measure do the resulting angles get?

m∠ MNQ=m∠ PNQ=90^(∘)

Practice makes perfect

Let's first mark the points M, N, and P so that ∠ MNP is straight. We also draw segments between the points.

Let's now mark a point Q so that NQ bisects ∠ MNP.

Let's now mark the congruent angles we get when we bisect ∠ MNP.

The ∠ MNP is straight and therefore its measure is 180^(∘). When we bisect an angle the resulting angles will both have a measure, m_r, half that of the original angle. Here the resulting angles' measure is m_r=180^(∘)/2=90^(∘). The resulting angles are both right angles. Let's therefore remove the arcs and replace them with squares.
