If ∠ A and ∠ C are complementary, it means that the sum of their measures is 90^(∘). m∠ A+m∠ C=90^(∘) Let's now assume that one of the angles — we will use ∠ A — is obtuse. Then its measure falls in the following range. 90^(∘)less than 0 — which is inconsistent with the definition of angles. Hence, if an angle is obtuse it cannot have a complement.
